Job Description

The Miami VA Healthcare System is seeking a skilled and mission-driven Hematologist/Oncologist to join our growing team of compassionate professionals delivering world-class care to those who served. This is more than a job — it's a calling to serve a unique and deserving population in a role that blends purpose with professional growth.

Your Role at a Glance

As a VA Hem/Onc physician, you’ll be at the forefront of transformative, outpatient-focused cancer care for Veterans. You will diagnose and manage a spectrum of hematologic and oncologic conditions in a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary setting. Responsibilities include:

  • Leading initial patient consultations and establishing evidence-based treatment plans
  • Administering and monitoring chemotherapy regimens
  • Coordinating multidisciplinary care with oncology nurses, pharmacists, and PAs
  • Participating in tumor boards and section-based clinical decision-making
  • Providing continuity of care for Veterans across the treatment spectrum
  • Optional participation in clinical research and teaching opportunities with local academic affiliates

This position offers a true opportunity to practice medicine at the top of your license—without the administrative overload and RVU pressure common in private practice. With no call, no weekends, and no telework, you’ll also reclaim work-life balance while delivering exceptional care.

Why Choose the VA

Working at the VA isn’t just a career—it’s a commitment to care with purpose. At the Miami VA, you’ll find:

  • Stable, Competitive Salary: $300,000–$400,000, with annual increases and performance-based bonuses
  • Federal Benefits Package: Includes generous paid time off, CME allowances, low-cost health insurance, retirement programs, and malpractice coverage with tail
  • Academic and Research Affiliation: Opportunities to teach and mentor students and trainees in partnership with the University of Miami and other academic affiliates
  • Collaborative Environment: Join a tight-knit team of 5 physicians, 2 physician assistants, and 3 experienced nurses who are passionate about patient outcomes and professional growth
  • Professional Growth: Engage in structured leadership development, access VA-funded research, and participate in continuing medical education opportunities

What We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate is board certified in Hematology and Oncology with strong clinical acumen and a patient-centered mindset. You thrive in a collaborative team and are driven by a deep respect for those who’ve served our country. You bring integrity, compassion, and a proactive approach to complex case management and continuous learning.

Whether you’re an established oncologist looking for a meaningful change or a mid-career professional eager to align your clinical expertise with public service, this is a role where your contributions will be valued, and your impact felt.
