Job Summary:

The Architectural Intern supports the architecture team by assisting in design, drafting, and documentation for building projects. This role provides exposure to design development, construction documentation, and coordination with engineering disciplines, offering hands-on experience in the architectural design process.

Primary Essential Functions:

  • Assist in preparing architectural drawings, renderings, and presentations.
  • Support development of construction documents, specifications, and design details.
  • Conduct research on building codes, materials, and sustainability practices.
  • Participate in site visits, surveys, and field verification activities.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, and project staff on multi-disciplinary design teams.

Secondary Essential Functions:

  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
  • Work collaboratively and effectively with clients and colleagues including cross-functional teams, peers, direct reports, and leadership, fostering a positive and inclusive work environment.
  • Adapt to changing business needs and priorities, demonstrating flexibility in taking on new responsibilities and adjusting to evolving challenges.

Competencies (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities):

Knowledge

  • Basic understanding of architectural design principles and building systems.
  • Awareness of building codes, sustainability standards, and construction documentation.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, or design visualization software.

Skills

  • Strong creative and design-thinking skills.
  • Effective drafting, visualization, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and design tools.

Abilities

  • Ability to translate design concepts into drawings and presentations.
  • Ability to learn and apply architectural standards and practices.
  • Ability to collaborate within multi-disciplinary teams.

Qualifications:

Required

  • Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Architecture.
  • Completion of relevant design studio coursework.
  • Basic proficiency in AutoCAD or Revit.

Preferred

  • Prior internship or studio experience with design firms.
  • Familiarity with 3D modeling and rendering software (SketchUp, Rhino, Lumion, etc.).
  • Involvement in AIAS or other architectural student organizations.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to remain seated for extended periods while working at a computer or attending meetings.
  • Frequent use of standard office equipment, including computers, keyboards, telephones, and printers.
  • Occasional light physical activity such as walking, standing, or carrying materials (up to 25 lbs.).
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in person, over the phone, and through written communication.
