JOB DEFINITION AND PURPOSE
Responsible for performing preventative maintenance on trailer units to company and DOT standards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Diagnoses and repairs various trailers, including preventative maintenance, inspections, repair to hydraulic systems, warranty procedures, brake systems, suspension, electrical and trailer body repairs with safety as the top priority.
- Identifies, diagnoses and resolves trailer related issues.
- Performs preventative maintenance on trailer equipment including routine technical repairs and completing repair orders.
- Installs and diagnosis trailer hitches and wiring.
- Remains technically proficient in all areas including trailer and basic parts administration.
- Performs general or routine welding with or without prints.
- Uses effective interpersonal skills to maintain positive working relationships with team members, customers and vendors.
- Contributes to the goals of the shop, leadership team and company as a whole.
- Utilizes appropriate resources, such as the parts manual and computer, service bulletins and other resources to research problems, determine most effective and efficient method for repairs and locate parts.
- Documents work order details within the company’s internal order and billing program.
- Ensures proper documentation is complete, including repair orders, parts pulled list, filing, etc.
- Abides by all company policies and safety rules and assists in maintaining a clean, safe work environment.
- Identifies opportunities for continuous improvement and takes appropriate actions, recommends process changes, and initiates improvements.
- Maintains a high percentage of billable hours.
- Be a positive role model for all team members providing support and enthusiasm- creating a professional, positive work environment.
- Be self-motivated, able, and willing to work independently while motivating team efforts.
- Works additional hours in accordance with business needs and other demands of the position.
- Job is located in a semi enclosed area with exposure to the elements.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check, physical and drug screen. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience in trailer repairs. The ability to demonstrate successful welding skills in non-standard situations and on varying materials is a plus. Demonstrate diagnostic and troubleshooting competency relating to equipment repairs.
Must have own tools (basic tools to be discussed during interview).
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid driver’s license preferred or ability to obtain one. Clean MVR.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact and communicate effectively over the phone and face to face; building solid working relationships with team members and vendors. Ability to clearly communicate in English, both verbally and written; ability to read and understand English. Ability to speak/read Spanish is preferred but not required.
REASONING ABILITY
Demonstrate sound judgement and the ability to make logical decisions in support of business demands. Use effective time management techniques and demonstrate the ability to prioritize and multi task without negatively impacting performance or results. Must be able to effectively and accurately complete detailed work with sense of urgency; always keeping safety at the forefront and demonstrating safe operating procedures. Ability to maintain composure and react professionally during periods of stress.
