Currently serving Hillsborough, Pinellas, Hernando, Citrus, Pasco, Manatee, Polk, Hardee, Orange, Lee and Sarasota counties providing the infrastructure that makes modern life possible.

Guided by Senior Management, FAC has a team that is equipped to provide efficient budget and timeline solutions for contracts ranging upward of $20 million dollars in size. FAC is a member of the Asphalt Contractors Association of Florida.

As the Lead Man, you’ll oversee safe, efficient asphalt milling operations using cold-milling machines on roads, parking lots, runways, and similar surfaces. You’ll supervise a small milling crew, work with the project/site leadership, operate machinery, and conduct routine maintenance to meet project specifications and quality standards as needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead by example on safety, enforcing company safety policies and OSHA/industry regulations at all times.
  • Plan and coordinate milling operations in collaboration with Site Supervisor or Project Manager, including sequencing and contract review.
  • Supervise, train, and mentor milling crew members in safe operation of milling machines.
  • Operate asphalt milling machines with depth/grade control systems (e.g. lasers, string lines) to ensure precision (±5 mm).
  • Conduct daily equipment pre‐checks (drum, teeth, conveyors), perform minor maintenance, clean after each shift, and log machine data (e.g. tooth changes).
  • Operate ancillary equipment as needed (e.g. broom and water trucks, skid steer with milling head, flagging).
  • Monitor production output (cutting speed, depth) and adjust machine operations to match plans. Maintain quality and maintain communication with crew and supervisors.
  • Assist with other crew functions (traffic control, cleanup, shoveling), as needed to support project flow.
  • Document daily operations including milling depths, quantities, maintenance performed, and any issues encountered.

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of road construction experience, with at least 2+ years operating asphalt milling equipment.
  • Proven ability to supervise and lead a small crew. Experience using Wirtgen-style or similar cold milling machines with automatic grade control.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with ability to perform routine service and minor repairs.
  • Valid driver’s license (minimum Class 5 or equivalent). CDL is a plus.
  • Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs regularly, work outdoors in heat, cold, and dust.
