Academic Program Specialist (Mathematics)

Responsibilities
  • Advises undergraduate students in five undergraduate mathematical majors and maintains electronic files on each student.
  • Tracks each student on courses taken, grades, and chosen academic track.
  • Determines student eligibility for enrollment in courses.
  • Serves as mapping coordinator for the department by advising students on what courses to take to stay on the correct academic track.
  • Processes drop/add, mapping, probation/dismissals, graduation checks and approvals for The College of Arts and Sciences.
  • Serves as liaison with the Office of Admission and Records, College of Arts and Sciences Student Affairs, Undergraduate Studies, etc.
  • Keeps abreast of all applicable admission and registrar policies and procedures for compliance.
  • Coordinates with the Graduate Advisor as part of the math advising team, and with the Associate Chair for Undergraduate Studies.
  • Conducts undergraduate student orientation.
  • Performs outreach programs at the local community college to provide information to potential students.
  • Assists with the organization, planning and implementation of major undergraduate recruiting events.
  • Assists with student clubs and events as needed.
  • Participates in efforts to inform other on campus advisors of math advising policies, as needed.
This position is also responsible for various other functions, including:

Supporting the department's academic advising and recruitment program as needed.
Assisting the Graduate Affairs Coordinator with related tasks for maintaining the department's academic programs.

Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree and two years of experience; or a high school diploma or equivalent and six years of experience. (Note: a combination of post high school education and experience equal to six years.)

Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of admissions, registration, and graduation requirements.
  • Experience interpreting academic program requirements and providing advice.
  • Knowledge of academic resources available to students.
  • Experience establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.

Anticipated Salary Range

Anticipated starting salary for the position is in the mid $40,000's.
