Position Overview

The Apprentice engages in learning an occupation through actual work experience under the supervision of a Journeyworker/Mentor/Supervisor. This position develops skills and expertise of a skilled journey worker while receiving on-the-job training.

What you will be doing
• Performs the work of the occupation and other pertinent duties as assigned
• Assists and trains alongside other staff in the assigned occupation to ensure duties are carried out efficiently and accurately
• Attends related technical instruction classes and on-the-job training to learn the basics of the occupation and completes the required hours
• Adheres to Health and Safety Regulations
• Develops and practices safe working habits and works in such a manner as to assure his/her personal safety and that of other workers
• Respects the property of the employer and complies with all rules, regulations and policies of the participating employer
• Maintains accurate records of work experience (OJT)
• Adheres to the Apprenticeship Agreement which shall set forth the terms and conditions of employment, and the Standards of Apprenticeship and any additional written rules and policies of the Program Sponsor
• Performs other duties as assigned

What you need to succeed
• High School Diploma or GED equivalent from a regionally accredited institution and must be admitted for enrollment into Miami Dade College.
• Must be able to comprehend instructions on the job and in related training classes.
• All degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution
• Knowledge and understanding of College organization, goals and objectives, and policies and procedures
• Knowledge and understanding of the Miami Dade College Apprenticeship Program policies and procedures
• Knowledge and understanding of the Miami Dade College Student Code of Student Conduct
• Possess good interpersonal, organizational and communication skills (verbal and written)
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
• Ability to work flexible schedule that may include evenings and weekends
• Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
• Ability to work well with students, faculty and staff
