Job DescriptionDirector of Special Education Location: Private School - North Miami Beach (Onsite) The Director of Special Education is a key member of the Lower School Administrative Team and is responsible for leading student-related services, including Special Education, ESOL, the Learning Center, and more. You will drive the implementation of best practices in instruction and student support, ensuring every child receives a high-quality, individualized education in the least restrictive environment. Key Responsibilities:
<ul>
<li>Lead, oversee, and integrate special education services across the lower school</li>
<li>Mentor and manage LS faculty and staff in collaboration with the leadership team</li>
<li>Support student enrollment decisions and personalized schedules</li>
<li>Design and deliver impactful professional development</li>
<li>Develop and implement Learning Profiles (LPs) based on educational evaluations</li>
<li>Collaborate with teachers and families to support individualized learning plans</li>
<li>Participate in PLC, CST, and curriculum development meetings</li>
<li>Champion student advocacy, academic differentiation, executive function skills, and inclusive practices</li>
<li>Liaise between educational partners and mainstream educators for smooth student integration</li>
<li>Ensure robust communication with all stakeholders — teachers, parents, administrators, and counselors</li>
<li>Coordinate testing accommodations and related logistics</li>
</ul>
 Required Qualifications:
<ul>
<li>Master’s Degree in Education, Educational Leadership, or related field (required)</li>
<li>10+ years of experience in Special Education (required)</li>
<li>4+ years in a school-based administrative/leadership role (required)</li>
<li>Previous experience working in a school with 600+ students (required)</li>
<li>Strong knowledge of individualized learning strategies, curriculum design, and teacher training</li>
<li>Proven ability to lead with empathy, innovation, and collaboration.</li>
